Samantha’s Cafe and Catering

Samantha’s Cafe and Catering is currently run by two Glens Falls dynamos, Liz Wilcox and Jennifer Kraft. The cafe and catering business is energized by their enthusiasm, passion, and individual personalities. A local favorite, Samantha’s is a gathering place for great food, friends, and community.

Having recently relocated to 193 Glen St, Samantha’s has stepped up their cafe game and is a very appealing spot for our local vegetarian and vegan community.

Without modifications, one can order the Tofu scramble burrito, baked bananas foster oatmeal, and fancy toast (depending on which toppings). And with some minor modifications, enjoy the hummus sandwich and the […]

Dizzy Chicken Wood Fired Rotisserie

Having just opened a few weeks ago after undergoing what appears to be significant renovations, people seem to be enjoying this new South Street restaurant’s offerings. So, we decided to reach out and ask if there was anything vegan-friendly on the menu.

A representative from the restaurant replied saying, “We do offer a grilled vegetable panini with eggplant, zucchini, roasted red peppers, goat cheese and a sun dried tomato spread. The goat cheese could be left off if one is vegan. We also do a caprese salad with house made mozzarella if they were lacto-ovo vegetarian (or simply omit the mozzarella). […]

Morgan & Co. Restaurant

Morgan & Co. is owned by husband-and-wife team Steve Butters and Rebecca Newell-Butters, both with some serious chops in the kitchen — Steve has appeared on the Food Network’s Sweet Genius and Rebecca won the Food Network’s reality show Chopped in 2009. They both were working as chefs in Boston but came to Rebecca’s hometown to open Morgan & Co. in the historic McEchron House. You can read more about them in this recent article, or on their website, which lets you make a reservation online.

Be forewarned: This is definitely a place where you need to make a reservation. They’re busy!

We’ve had some great […]

Bistro LeRoux

The Glens Falls Vegan crew finally had a chance to check out Bistro LeRoux, a chef owned and operated restaurant offering “sophisticated Adirondack Cuisine made with only the season’s freshest ingredients.”

Upon looking over the menu, we noticed a TVP stuffed pepper that looked like it could be easily veganized by leaving off the sour cream, however we were quickly informed about quite a few other options.

We ordered the Truffled Pomme Frites as an appetizer, leaving off the pesto and aioli, which were delicious. The chef also sent us a complimentary vegan fried shrimp appetizer made from konjac root powder and […]

“And Then I Ate Her Vegan Food, Now I’m a Believah…”

Having been vegetarian most of my young adult life, the transition into veganhood was, to use the parlance of our times, no big whoop, dude. The basic components of change were there: I already cared about the welfare of animals, Earthly sustainability and health so why not go whole hog (excuse the pun). Throwing myself into cooking was one of the most helpful factors at play in making good on my commitment. I knew I’d have to step up my chef skills and get creative, lest I join the much-maligned ranks of what one of my close veg friends refers […]

Fountain Square Outfitters

Fountain Square Outfitters is an outdoor gear and apparel store in downtown Glens Falls. A couple of products available there should be of special interest to local vegans.

The first is Lazy Dog Cookie Co. dog treats. Located in Ballston Spa, the  bakery provides dog treats that are all natural, wheat and corn free, and vegetarian. FSO offers the Pizza Crust and Sweet Puptato Pie treats for sale (both are vegan). Both have been very well received by my dog, Layla!

FSO also carries Darn Tough socks. They’re made in Vermont and guaranteed for life. No matter what. Seriously, it says so on […]

Recovery Sports Grill – Queensbury

Recovery sports grill has a few vegan options that are worth stopping in for. Most importantly, they carry Gardein vegan nuggets!

The Gardein nuggets typically come with dairy-ranch dressing on the side, so order without. With the Gardein nuggets these are the vegan sauces available:

Sweet BBQ
Chipotle BBQ
Cheerleader
Thai Chili
Thai Peanut
Tequila Lime
Bloodymary
Hot

If you’d like a suggestion: the Cheerleader is our favorite!

Another option is the veggie burger; the patty itself and the bun are both vegan. Ask for it without the chipotle ranch / cheese to make it vegan (maybe even add one of the sauces above!)

Their flat bread is also vegan if you […]

Martha’s Dandee Creme

Martha’s has been a staple in this area since before I can remember. We all grew up begging our parents to take us for ice cream after dinner.

Well now, vegan friends, we can all relive that joy because Martha’s has Dole vegan soft serve! They have the pineapple, strawberry, mango and raspberry flavors and offer two of these every day.

Martha’s uses Joy Cone cake cones and I’ve confirmed that these are vegan as well. So get excited and go enjoy some vegan ice cream!
